Obamacare: Practical or Violation of Rights?

“The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.”
        -Thomas Jefferson

The First Amendment states that Congress can’t make a “law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise.”
Churches all over the country believe that Obamacare goes against the First Amendment.  Obamacare is a health care plan that would expand Medicaid, allowthe uninsured and self-employed would be able to purchase insurance through state-based exchanges and have the insurance companies and employers provide contraceptives.  On February 13, 2012, the White House’s Press Secretary Jay Carney held a press conference to address the issues of the U.S., including the health care issues.
“We never set out with the assumption that everyone would be satisfied with this balanced approach.  The issue here is giving employers the right to deny women the access to preventive services, including contraception free of charge,” stated Carney.
If only a statement like that could solve everything.
The Bishop of Marquette, Alexander Sample, sent what could be considered a very radical letter to surrounding churches.  In the letter, Sample wrote many things that could pose problems for the future.
“We cannot- we will not- comply with this unjust law.  People of faith cannot be made second class citizens,” Sample wrote.  “The Obama Administration has cast aside the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, denying to Catholics our Nation’s first and most fundamental freedom, that of religious liberty.”
To a member of the Obama Administration, a letter written like that is cause for worry.  To a member of any faith and church, a letter written like that makes sense and may be what they need to take action.
The Democratic Party is siding with the Obama Administration, while the Republican Party disagrees.
Both the Obama Administration and the Church have valid points in their arguments and opinions, and that’s all it is: a matter of opinion.
